Product Overview
L-Shaped Bunk Bed Plans
This plan explains how to build a bunk bed from standard lumber and materials that you can find at your local hardware or home store. It describes selecting wood, cutting, sanding, drilling, and finishing it. It comes with quick shopping list of materials so that you can quickly find the materials to begin your project. This plan is for building bunk beds that use 2 standard single (twin) size mattresses. This is a great project for the beginner or even the advanced do-it-yourself type person. This L-Shaped bunk bed built with these plans will hold up to a lot of hard use and last for at least a generation. We have the first one that we ever built and all of our 6 children have used it as their assigned bed. It is still in use today in 2013. This requires common tools that are easily obtained. The tools needed are a circular saw, an electric drill, a power sander and some bits.
This bunk bed plan makes two separate beds, a loft bed and a matching twin. The plans cover construction of both in detail. There is room for a chest or shelves below. Both beds use a standard twin-size mattress. The top bunk measures 65" tall, by 42" wide, by 81" long, with about 48 inches of clearance beneath. The lower bed measures 42" wide, by 82" long. Both bunks can easily accommodate adult weight. Both bunks can easily accommodate adult weight. The finished bed will stand up to daily use for many years and continue to look nice. Many of the beds we have manufactured have been in daily use in hotels, camps, shelters and other institutions for 15 years or more, supporting adult weight and still look great.
The hardware kit has every necessary hardware piece needed to complete both beds. That means that you get all screws and black plated furniture lags. You can price the materials locally to see if our prices are a good value for you. We have included the shopping list below. Just another word about our hardware kits, they are higher quality and a better price than most of the hardware that you can get locally and we ship it to you for free. (*Please be aware that the wood needed is not included in the hardware kit. It is just the metal parts like screws and lags.*) It is pretty convenient to order a kit from us and get all of the right hardware at a competitive price. Remember, we include free shipping on hardware kits in the 50 United States.
