Our hardware is the same that is used in the furniture construction industry. Each screw and lag is hardened steel. That is not the case with the lag screws that you buy locally. The plans specify what size holes to drill for the specific hardware you are using. The holes are different for our hardware vs. the common plated hardware that you get in a home store. One word about buying your own screws, we do not reccomend using them. the main reason is that they break during construction at times and often cam out on the ends easily (camming out is the wearing of receiver slot in the end of the screw that happens when the bit slips and spins preventing the screw from being driven in and sometimes making it very difficult to remove).
